Abuja – Comrade Mahmud Abubakar has officially announced his intention to contest for the position of National President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). In his declaration, he emphasized that this is not merely an aspiration but a call to action, a commitment to serve, and a promise to elevate NANS to unprecedented heights.
A Proven Track Record of Leadership:
Comrade Abubakar highlighted his extensive background in student activism, showcasing his leadership journey across various capacities within NANS and the National Association of Nigeria Colleges of Education Students (NANCES). His experience includes:
- Assistant Secretary General, School of Sciences, FCT College of Education, Zuba (2011–2012).
- President, Computer Department, FCT
College of Education, Zuba, Abuja.
- NANS FCT Director of Special Duties (2013–2014).
- Director of Media and Publicity, NANCES (2015).
-National President, NANCES (2019).
-Currently serving as Director of FCT Matters to the President of NANS.
Comrade Mahmud is also the convener of concerned youth for good governance.
Speaking on his leadership journey, Abubakar noted that these roles have equipped him with a profound understanding of the challenges facing Nigerian students. From issues of inadequate funding and substandard infrastructure to insecurity and social injustice, his experiences have fueled his passion for addressing these pressing concerns.
A Vision for Change:
Comrade Abubakar’s vision for NANS is rooted in creating a vibrant, effective, and influential student body that advocates for the rights and welfare of Nigerian students. His plan, dubbed Exploration 2025, aims to position NANS as a driving force for social transformation and to ensure that the voices of Nigerian students are heard loud and clear.
“My goal is to lead NANS into an era of unprecedented impact, where we don’t just identify problems but actively work to solve them. Together, we can create a better future for all Nigerian students,” Abubakar stated.
As the campaign begins to gain momentum, Nigerian students eagerly await more details about his vision and proposed strategies to address the challenges facing the student community.
