Abuja, June 22, 2025 - Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has been honored with the "Media-Friendly Governor of the Year" Award by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) at its 70th Anniversary Gala held at the Yar'Adua Centre in Abuja.
The award recognizes Governor Yahaya's administration's commitment to press freedom, open governance, and strategic engagement with the media. The Governor was represented by Commissioner for Environment, Water and Forest Resources, Hon. Mohammed Saidu Fawu, who accepted the award and expressed gratitude to the NUJ.
Governor's Reaction

NUJ's Commendation
NUJ President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, commended Governor Yahaya's outstanding contributions to journalism and society. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, also lauded the NUJ for strengthening democracy and governance in Nigeria, describing journalists as "indispensable partners in national development."
Other Award Recipients
Several governors, including those of Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Imo, Borno, Kano, Ondo, and Oyo, received awards in various categories for their contributions to journalism and society.
The NUJ's 70th anniversary celebration highlighted the importance of a free press in promoting democracy and good governance in Nigeria.
