The Executive Governor of Katsina State, Malam Umar Dikko Radda, alongside the Federal Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Minister of Livestock Development, National President of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Hon. Muhammad Magaji Gettado, and other key stakeholders, has officially launched the distribution of free fertilizer to farmers across the North-West zone.
In a statement signed by Bashir Sulaiman Garkuwa, Personal Assistant to the National President of AFAN, the fertilizer support was provided by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) to support agricultural activities, empower farmers, enhance food production, and contribute to economic growth in the region and the country at large.
The statement noted that the launch ceremony was attended by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari; the Minister of State for Agriculture, Senator Sabi Abdullahi; the Minister of Livestock Development, Hon. Idi Muktar Hong; representatives of state governors; Commissioners of Agriculture; Chairmen of Agricultural Committees in the National Assembly; the Executive Secretary of NADF, Alh. Muhammad A. Ibrahim; the Managing Director of BOA; the Executive Secretary of NALDA; traditional rulers; APC leaders; senior government officials; and farmers from various parts of the country.
During the event, the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), under the leadership of its National President, Hon. Muhammad Magaji Gettado, and the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF), led by Alh. Muhammad A. Ibrahim, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the supply, receipt, and distribution of fertilizer, with a clear framework to ensure that the intervention reaches farmers across the region.
Governor Umar Dikko Radda commended AFAN and its leadership for their commitment toward ensuring the success of the programme. He urged relevant stakeholders to monitor the distribution process and ensure that the fertilizer gets to genuine farmers as planned.
The AFAN National President, Hon. Muhammad Magaji Gettado, expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for introducing the initiative aimed at supporting farmers, especially at the beginning of the farming season. He also commended the Ministry of Agriculture and NADF for their efforts in ensuring that farmers benefit from the programme.
Hon. Gettado assured that AFAN would ensure the fertilizer is distributed according to the approved plan to promote agricultural development and improve food production across Nigeria.
