Dr. Sani Sabo Marks Two Years as Gombe Transport DG, Clears ₦500m Debt and Records Major Reforms

The Director General of Gombe State Transport Services (Gombe Line), Dr. Sani Sabo, has marked his two-year anniversary in office (September 2, 2023 – September 2, 2025) with the unveiling of landmark achievements that have transformed the state-owned transport company.


Presenting the scorecard, Dr. Sabo announced the clearance of over ₦500 million in debts, a significant boost in internally generated revenue, and the elimination of leakages through automation. He emphasized that staff salaries and allowances have been paid regularly, improving morale and productivity.

Key Achievements Highlighted by Dr. Sabo:

  • Debt Clearance:

    • ₦220.4m balance from a ₦1.05b Infrastructure Bank loan (2019) fully repaid.
    • ₦334.3m repaid from a ₦450m UBA loan (2023).
    • Over 80% of ₦8.5m supplier debts cleared.
    • Gombe Line now free from major liabilities.
  • Fleet & Operations:

    • Several grounded buses, including 7 slated for auction, fully repaired and returned to service.
    • Automation improved from 40% to 90%, eliminating manual errors and revenue leakages.
    • Relocation of operations from the old Jekadafari station to the modern Mega Park facility.
  • Staff Welfare:

    • Regular and timely payment of staff salaries and allowances, boosting workforce commitment.
  • Infrastructure & Security (CSR):

    • Ongoing construction of a Civil Defence outpost at the park (80% completed).
    • Overhauled vehicle provided to the Police outpost (90% completed).
    • Funding support extended to NDLEA outpost within the Mega Park.
    • Tree planting initiative launched in partnership with Acresal project to beautify the park and prevent erosion.
  • Innovation:

    • Establishment and licensing of a Courier and Logistics Unit.

Dr. Sani Sabo attributed the successes to the unwavering support and supervision of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, stressing that the reforms were achieved through teamwork, resilience, and innovation.

“In two years, we have repositioned Gombe Line as a debt-free, efficient, and people-oriented transport service. With the Governor’s continued support, our focus remains on delivering safe, reliable, and sustainable transport solutions for the people of Gombe State,” Dr. Sabo stated.
