The Coalition of Niger Delta People for Development (CONFODEV) has reaffirmed its confidence in the leadership of the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, while also throwing its full support behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
At a press briefing on Wednesday, CONFODEV — an umbrella body of several Niger Delta groups including the Niger Delta Development Agenda (NDDA), Niger Delta Renaissance and Development Movement, Rivers State Ex-Agitators Network, Ndigbo Progressive Youths Coalition, and the Niger Delta Liberators and Ex-Agitators Forum — strongly condemned recent allegations of corruption and marginalisation leveled against Ojulari.
Describing the accusations as “baseless, politically motivated, and a smear campaign orchestrated by enemies of development,” the coalition praised Ojulari’s short but impactful tenure.
“In less than four months, Mr. Ojulari has boosted crude oil production, revitalized infrastructure, and extended empowerment programs to host communities. These reforms are shaking the tables of entrenched interests who thrived on nepotism and corrupt contract awards,” the coalition declared.
CONFODEV outlined four key resolutions:
1. Condemnation of politically sponsored attacks against the NNPCL GCEO.
2. A vote of confidence in President Tinubu and Ojulari for repositioning the oil sector.
3. A warning to Niger Delta youths not to be used as tools by corrupt interests.
4. A call for continued dismantling of ethnic monopolies in pipeline surveillance contracts.
The coalition further accused critics of being “agents of sabotage” who fear transparency and reform.
“Those calling for Ojulari’s removal are exposing their selfish agenda. Nigerians must stand with a leader whose vision reflects fairness, growth, and prosperity in the oil sector,” CONFODEV stated.
Vowing to sustain its mobilization for reforms, CONFODEV pledged to resist any attempt to drag the Niger Delta back into an era of exploitation and injustice.
