Gusau, Zamfara State - A disturbing incident occurred on Monday, January 4, 2022, when Sagiru Musa, a young Deaf man, attempted to take his own life. Fortunately, the attempt was unsuccessful, and he is currently receiving medical attention at the Federal Medical Center in Gusau.

According to the chairman of the Zamfara State Association of the Deaf, Musa is undergoing treatment and is on the road to recovery. However, the circumstances surrounding the incident are still unclear, as Musa is still recuperating from his injuries.

Sources close to the family revealed that Musa had been struggling with depression, peer bullying, and mockery from his colleagues. This disturbing trend of discrimination, prejudice, and bullying is not unique to Musa, as many Deaf and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) suffer in silence.

The incident highlights the urgent need for greater support and inclusivity for Deaf and PWDs in our society. It also underscores the importance of addressing the root causes of depression, bullying, and discrimination.

As Musa continues to receive medical attention, it is essential that we, as a society, come together to promote greater understanding, acceptance, and inclusivity for all individuals, regardless of their abilities.
