Abuja, Nigeria – June 26, 2025 - Renowned Abuja-based businesswoman and humanitarian, Dr. Halimat Adenike Tejuosho, has taken Mega News, First Weekly Magazine, Ivory NG, News Online Nigeria, and other media houses to court over a "malicious and defamatory" publication that falsely alleged she was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for her involvement in a multimillion-naira appointment and contract scam.
The controversial article, titled “EFCC Arrests Abuja Businesswoman, Halimat Tejuosho, Over High-Profile Appointment Scam,” was published by Mega News on June 23, 2025, and republished by other media outlets. It accused Dr. Tejuosho of impersonation, fraud, and forgery – all of which she has categorically denied.
Through her legal representatives, Dr. Tejuosho has issued a formal demand letter to the publishers and editors of the involved media houses, seeking:
1. Immediate retraction of the defamatory article.
2. Public apology on the media houses' websites and in three national dailies.
3. ₦100 million in damages for reputational harm.
The letter also states that failure to comply within 24 hours will result in legal action claiming a ₦1 billion lawsuit for general, aggravated, and punitive damages.
“At no time has Dr. Tejuosho been arrested, arraigned, or convicted for any such offenses,” the legal demand reads. “This false narrative has caused her immense emotional distress and irreparable reputational damage.”
Dr. Tejuosho, widely respected for her humanitarian work across Nigeria through the Queen Adenike Tejuosho Foundation, has received multiple awards and recognition for her community service.
The case is expected to set a precedent for media accountability and the protection of individual reputations in the digital age.
