ZAPD Launches Groundbreaking Disability Digital Registration App in Kazungula

Kazungula, Zambia. November 22, 2024:

The Disability Digital Registration Offline App, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at enhancing the inclusion of persons with disabilities, was officially launched today in Kazungula District, Southern Province.

The event was graced by distinguished dignitaries, including the Guest of Honour Hon. Credo Nanjiwa, His Royal Highness Chief Sekute, the International Labour Organization (ILO) Country Director for Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique, the Social Welfare Director, the District Commissioner, Her Worship the Council Chairperson, and other senior government officials.

Developed with financial support from the ILO and technical expertise from the University of Zambia (UNZA), the app aims to ensure that individuals with disabilities in remote and underserved areas are registered. This will facilitate their access to vital social protection and government services.

Speaking at the event, Director General of the Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities (ZAPD), Frankson Musukwa, highlighted plans to enhance the app's functionality. "Our future vision includes integrating this system with the new rights-based disability assessment tool, enabling seamless information sharing between ZAPD and other government systems to improve eligibility determination," he stated.
The app is poised to revolutionize the management of disability data through its integration into the Disability Management Information System (DMIS). This will significantly enhance program case management, policy planning, and ZAPD’s ability to deliver on its mandate effectively.

The launch also underscored the importance of collaboration, with ZAPD expressing gratitude to the United Nations family for their continued support of the disability sector.

This initiative represents a major step forward in ensuring no one is left behind, particularly in hard-to-reach areas, as Zambia advances its commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunities for all.
