IDPD: FOUNDATION COMMENDS GOMBE GOVERNOR ON DISABILITY BILL

The Executive Governor of Gombe state, Alh Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has been commended for his resilience and commitment to improving the living conditions of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Gombe state.

The commendations were made Wednesday 6th December 2023 by the CEO of Foundation for Youth Awakening and Empowerment (FOYAE), Mrs Linda Ishaku Allabura, at the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) Gombe state branch office on the occasion of the 2023 International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD).

Speaking as a guest speaker, Mrs Linda Ishaku Allabura noted that it gives her great honour and privilege to be called upon to present a goodwill message as part of the 2023 celebration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities on behalf of the Foundation.

“on a day like this, joint activities are organised to speak and be heard. So as to promote the rights and wellbeing of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and to raise awareness on their situations generally and also to enable them to participate fully, eqally, and effectively without barriers”

The well-respected mother, who has been admired by many PWDs within and outside the state for the good works she is doing to promote their Inclusion in the society, lamented the persistent negative societal attitude towards disability Community which they experienced not only in Gombe state but the country at large.

She said, “It is a fact that PWDs face discrimination and barriers restricting their inclusions in all area of society. That is why FOYAE focuses on their needs, rights, and contributions in all aspects of life, including decision making to ensure their equal rights in society”

“On the issue of Gender Based violence (GBV), PWDs face challenges of injustice, poor support, disservice, and poor protection from violence”

“We, at FOYAE, want inclusivity, we want PWDs to embrace their identity, we wish to break barriers to promote equality and rights”

She added, “one thing we know is that PWD has identity, emotions, personal interests, dreams, goals, and desires and also wants love and good relationships.

“Permit me to commend the Governor of Gombe state for his commitment to attending to several needs of persons with Disabilities and for also accepting to sign the Disability bill”

“Finally, I must commend the leadership and the entire members of the Gombe State Chapter of Joint Association of Persons with Disabilities for organising this awareness programme and for their resilience, unity, and oneness”

Earlier the chairman of JONAPWD Gombe State chapter, Mal Ishyaku Adamu praised the Governor for the many PWD-centred projects and giant strides recorded in his five year spell in office.

He noted that, PWDs Community of Gombe state would forever remain indebted to Alh Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for being the most Disability-friendly governor in the history of the state.
