The Alfurqan Deaf Islamic Daawah Association which is one of the three recognized Association of Deaf Muslims in Nigeria has organized it's Annual National Conference with a theme titled "National Daawah Camp and Workshop on Arabic Sign Language for the Deaf Muslims in Nigeria"
The workshop hold from 21st to 29th December, 2022 at Special Education Center Yelwa, Bauchi. Bauchi State.
During the closing ceremony of the workshop on 28th December, many dignitaries, religious, traditional, educational, political leaders and delegates from different states were present and immediately after the opening prayer, reading the Holy and Glorious Quran Opening chapter in Arabic sign language was offered by a participant, brother Ismail Idris who is from Bauchi State.
The National Ameer Malam Salisu Jibrin Zaria briefed the Audiences about the Association, how it's formed and it's aim and objectives which include the propagation on Islam, Arabic sign language and learning the Quran in Arabic instead of English and ASL sign language which majority of Deaf Muslim depends while reading the Holy Quran.
He said that instead of English and American sign language, we have Arabic Sign language and thankful some of us already learned some of it. we consider it a responsibility to impart the knowledge acquired to our fellow Deaf Muslims brothers and sisters noting that the Quran was written in Arabic and it's necessary for the Deaf too to learn how to read it in Arabic instead of English translation which most deaf Muslims depends on.
He called on the general Ummah to support some Deaf Muslims to go and study Islam abroad especially in Saudi Arabia and other countries where Arabic sign language are taught so that they can learn more and come back to impart the knowledge acquired to their fellow Deaf Muslims brothers and sisters citing that those who know how to read Arabic sign language are very few.
Salisu called the general public to support the association in the propagation of Islam to deaf.
While delivering a goodwill messages, Mal. Muktar Aliyu said, "Allah created everyone with ears as you can see everyone of us including the Deaf here have ears. It's only known to Him that He withhold some of your hearing and make you Deaf. But don't feel it's because He don't love you, oh No. Allah does everything with a reason. We can not question God.
He however said the society has a lot of responsibilities towards the Deaf and the society need to have a rethink.
Another goodwill messages was delivered by Sheikh Ahmed Tijjani Yusuf saying that "everybody has his own Qadr(Destiny) Destiny can be good or bad and accepting it is part of faith adding that sometimes it can be a blessing in disguise.
On his part, the Chairman of Bauchi State Agency for PWDS Hon Ibrahim Mohammed to commend and appreciate each and everyone for their efforts to come from far and near to learn more about Islam and Allah's religion urging them to utilize the knowledge acquired and teach their fellows when they go back home.
Vote of thanks was delivered by the Acting Secretary of state Branch of the Association Mal. Hisham Luti Shuaibu Sambo who expressed sincere gratitude and appreciation to each dignitaries, participants etc for coming and joining hands to make the program a huge success.
Hisham However called the general Ummah and the government to please kindly establish Islamic school for the deaf in Bauchi which they are lacking.
While appreciating the Gov for sponsoring a blind to study Islam abroad, he calls and urge the government to extent this kind gesture to deaf Muslims also because they are in dear need of it to enable them come back and impart Islam and Arabic sign language to their fellow Deaf Muslims.
