The Gombe State Commission for Persons with Disabilities (GSCPWD) has enhanced access to education and independence for students with disabilities through the distribution of mobility devices in partnership with Qatar Charity Organisation.

The support items — including electric wheelchairs and white canes — were distributed to students with physical and visual impairments across the state to improve mobility, participation in school, and overall well-being.

The Executive Chairman of GSCPWD, Dr. Ishiyaku Adamu, expressed gratitude to Qatar Charity for its continuous humanitarian cooperation and support toward disability inclusion in Gombe State. He also applauded Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for his unwavering commitment to the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities, noting that the Commission’s achievements are made possible under his leadership.

“These devices are valuable and life-changing,” Dr. Ishiyaku said.
“I urge beneficiaries to handle them with care, make the best use of them, and keep praying for our partners and our Governor, who has remained a true friend of persons with disabilities.”

Filled with emotion, Mrs. Aishatu Aliyu Usman, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, described the support as a breakthrough for families who have struggled with the challenges of disability.

“This is truly a dream come true,” she said.
“For years, I carried my daughter Khadija on my back because she couldn’t use a normal wheelchair and we couldn’t afford an electric one. Today, we received one for free — this has changed our lives. We thank the GSCPWD and Qatar Charity for bringing hope and dignity back into our family.”

Dr. Ishiyaku assured other disability clusters that the Commission is working on more empowerment programs to support different assistive needs across the state.

He reaffirmed that with strong partnerships and the continued support of Governor Yahaya, Gombe State is steadily advancing its mission of inclusive development, ensuring no person with a disability is left behind.
