Abuja, February 7, 2025 – The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Shehu Dikko, has reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to the advancement of deaf sports in Nigeria, assuring the Nigeria Deaf Sports Federation (NDSF) that NSC is their home.
Dikko made this statement on Friday while receiving a delegation from NDSF, led by its President, Dagbo Suleiman Saka, alongside representatives from across the country. The meeting allowed the federation to highlight its challenges, particularly in special sports, while the NSC chairman pledged immediate interventions and long-term assistance.
“I congratulate you for your relentless efforts in pursuing your passion despite challenges. Your determination is inspiring. With more collaboration, we can build shared prosperity and hope for everyone involved,” Dikko said.
He emphasized President Bola Tinubu’s strong commitment to people living with disabilities, noting that the administration has prioritized inclusivity, including appointing a Special Adviser on Disability Matters.
“The President is dedicated to ensuring equal opportunities for all. What we are doing here is in line with his mandate,” Dikko affirmed.
He further revealed that NSC had made budgetary provisions to enhance para sports, ensuring access to necessary equipment and kits. He urged the federation to extend its impact beyond national tournaments by organizing developmental competitions across various states.
“We are not just going to upscale the sport; we will create opportunities for you to thrive. This is not just about competition—it’s about empowerment and job creation,” he added.
Dikko also commended the federation for its outstanding performances at international tournaments, urging them to submit their 2025 activity plans for proper support.
He concluded by emphasizing the strong backing of NSC Director-General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, a long-time advocate of para sports.
“With a passionate sports administrator like Olopade as DG, you can rest assured that NSC is your home,” Dikko reiterated.
This commitment from NSC marks a significant milestone in the development of deaf sports in Nigeria, reinforcing the government’s dedication to inclusivity in the sporting sector.
