I write to commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the swift action he has taken in the corruption scandal presently rocking the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Dr. Betta Edu.
By suspending Dr. Edu and referring her to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for investigation, the President has shown a strength of capital and total aversion towards corruption. An attribute that was completely absent during the 8 years of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The suspension of Dr. Edu has placed the President in a high pedestal and shown him to be one who will not tolerate any form of corrupt practice in his government. If President continues with this trajectory, Nigeria will soon become the envy of the entire Africa and government appointees in the country will know that it is no longer business as usual, irrespective of how highly placed such an appointee may be.
It is, therefore, highly commendable to see the President not only condemning corruption but also taking practical steps to ensure that it does not take root in his government! Nigerians have suffered too much from corrupt practices perpetuated by public officers and it is high time someone was made an example.
While Dr. Edu and other accused persons remain innocent until proven guilty, it is, however, necessary that they defend the allegations against them, as regular citizens, not as sitting minister or head of agency as was obtainable in the past. It is in this light that I commend Mr. President, once again, for decisive action in suspending Dr. Edu.
May our country become great.
Comrade Deji Adeyanju
