Earlier on Monday 23rd October, 2023, the chairman of Gombe State Deaf Sports Association (GSDSA) Mr Daniel Yusuf Labeleng, has led other officials of GSDSA, two players and officials of Gombe Deaf United FC, to pay a courtesy visit to the headquarters of Gombe State Sports Commission (GSSC)
The visit was essentially geared towards improving the already cordial relationship between the GSDSA and the GSSC management, notify the commission on the recent succes achieved by some players of GD United FC and discuss other pertinent issues pertaining to forthcoming PARA sports.
The GSDSA contingent were warmly welcomed by the GSSC's Director of Sports( DOS) Mrs, zaniab ishakau Ahmed in her office.
In her remarks, the DOS expressed immense gratitude to the GSDSA members for their tireless efforts to improve Deaf Sports in Gombe state.
She noted that her office is always open for the Deaf athletes and will do everything within her capacity to support the GSDSA to achieve it's mandate.
Impressed by the wonderful feat achieved by the GD United FC for having it's player participated at the just concluded International Deaf Football Championship in Malaysia, the DOS took the GSDSA members to the GSSC Permanent Secretary's office in order to intimate the Permanent Secretary on the development recorded so far and seek blessings.
The Permanent Secretary Hon. Mohammed Mohammed Galadima, who was equally impressed with the success story of Deaf Sports in Gombe state, assured the GSDSA members of his immense support.
Mr. Galadima requested the GSDSA members to give him little time to lead them to see the Hon Commissioner of Youths and Sports Hon. Adamu Inuwa Pantam soonest.
On his part, Mr.Isaac Wunako Linga, a senior Head coach in the GSSC praised the GSDSA members for their resilient and total commitment to promoting sports inclusion and development in Gombe state. He stressed the urgent need for all the special sports athletes to commence preparation for the upcoming National Para sports competition 2023
He said, "it's important for all the special sports athletes to commence training earnestly in order to be in their best sharp before the invitation letter for Para sports was brought to the Commission which according to him is expected to be ready by December 8th, 2023"
"All athletes shall commence training at least twice a week every Monday and Thursday" the senior coach noted
Speaking on behalf of entire GSDSA members, the GSDSA chairman Mr. Daniel Yusuf Labeleng appreciated the GSSC management for the recognition and attention given to Deaf Sports loving persons in the state.
He noted that the GSDSA can not do it alone, stressing that the support of the Commission is of paramount importance to the development of Deaf Sports not only in Gombe state but the country at large.
The GSDSA leader further use the occasion to call on the state government, officials of the GSSC and all sports loving personalities in the state to support the Deaf athletes in order to fastrack the uptimum development of sporting activities among the Deaf in Gombe state.
According to him, these boys and girls posses all the skills necessary to make meaningful contributions to sports development in Gombe state like their hearing counterparts. Unfortunately nobody is supporting them. He added.
The GSDSA members who accompanied the Chairman to the GSSC headquarters include the Deputy Chairman GSDSA who also doubled as the Chairman GD United FC, Mal. Shuaibu Adamu, JONAPWD's Assistant Sports Director, Sulaiman Abdullahi, Gombe Deaf United FC Head Coach, Mr Blessed Charles, Deaf Eagles Right Back Defender, Isah Zubairu and his co- G. D United team mate Sani Bala.
