The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) Special Task Force and Situation Room Aides 7,257 Persons With Disabilities to Exercise Their Franchise.
The NCPWD head of New Media Saleh Faruq Gagarawa said In a recent statement, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Mr. James David Lalu,npom highlighted the significant role played by the special task force and situation room in ensuring a smooth and inclusive electoral process for Persons with Disabilities.
"Mr. Lalu praised the special task force for their dedication and commitment to assisting Persons with Disabilities in exercising their right to vote without any hindrances. Their efforts during the off-season elections in Bayelsa, Kogi, and Imo states were instrumental in ensuring that individuals with disabilities had the necessary support to cast their votes"
Inclusive Reporters Learnt that the situation room, established by the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, served as a central hub for monitoring and providing assistance to Persons with Disabilities throughout electoral process beginning from 2023 general election. It acted as a rapid response unit, addressing any challenges faced by individuals with disabilities during election especially voting process.
Mr. Lalu further revealed that the enforcement of accessibility in public buildings, which is set to begin soon, is part of the commission's broader efforts to create an inclusive society. This upcoming initiative will further enhance the mission of the commission by ensuring that individuals with disabilities can access public spaces with ease.
"The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities continues to be a beacon of support and advocacy for individuals with disabilities in Nigeria. Through initiatives like the special task force and situation room, we are actively working towards a more inclusive electoral process and a society that values and accommodates the needs of all its citizens" The statement concludes.
