SDG National Students Council Urges State and Local Government Engagement for UN Pact Implementation

Joins Youth Minister, Ayo Olawande, House of Reps Member, Hon. Bello El-Rufai, others to commend CBN Governor for Youth Summit

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) National Students Council has called for increased engagement of state and local governments in implementing the United Nations Pact for the Future.

Speaking at the CBN Youth Event themed “The Youths Are Here” in Abuja, the Council’s Director, Amb. Timothy Nwachukwu, emphasized that sub-regional governments play a crucial role in the Pact’s success. He noted that their proximity to grassroots communities makes them best positioned to localize and implement the agreement effectively.
During a panel session, he stressed the need for sensitization, awareness, and capacity-building for state and local government officials, urging them to integrate the Pact into their development plans. He also called for strengthened institutional frameworks to ensure proper coordination, monitoring, and resource allocation for implementation.

The United Nations Pact for the Future, adopted at the 2024 Summit of the Future in New York, is a landmark international agreement addressing global governance, digital cooperation, human rights, climate change, and youth empowerment. Its adoption reaffirms international commitment to sustainable development with the United Nations at its core.
