The National Youth Leader of the Nigerian National Association of the Deaf (NNAD) Comrade Ebuka Okeke in preparation of Deaf National Youth Summit, paid a courtesy visit to the Director General of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA where he sought collaboration on the need to fight, advocate and raise awareness against drug abuse during the summit holding at Nasarawa state capital next month.
In a press statement made available to Inclusivereporters.com, the National Youth Leader quoted that " we was at the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on an advocacy visit to the Chairman of NDLEA who was ably represented by the Director of Drug demand reduction Directorate (DDRD) where he and his team sought opportunity to create a working partnership with the agency on drug abuse reduction among Nigerian Deaf youths"
"We appreciated the agency for embracing inclusion and in action, promoting its relevance by employing Deaf people in the agency"
This would serve as a good example of how an inclusive government should look like to other federal agencies and it is worthy of emulation. He added.
Recalls that NDLEA recently employed 5% of Deaf and PWDs in their Agency.
"As the National Deaf Youth Summit approaches, we sought collaboration from NDLEA to send Resource Persons to sensitize and increase the knowledge of the Deaf youths on legal consequences and danger of Drug abuse and dependence"
Meanwhile, the NDLEA Boss promised to send Resource Persons to the Summit at Lafia, Nasarawa and commitment to include deaf youths in their future activities like workshops and capacity building training.
